Archaeological News: Greek treasures take a hit
ATHENS — They survived wars, plunderers, earthquakes, millions of tourists and nearly 2,000 years of time. But they may not survive Greece’s debt crisis.
The great ruins of ancient Greek civilization are being imperiled by massive budget cuts Greece is imposing to qualify for European bailout…
It has been shown that austerity may save money for the state, but it does not help to create jobs or to grow the society. And it seems to destroy that which is one of the few things that bring the country and people income. The obvious is the loss of cultural sites and features that are immensely important to Western culture, and to Man Kind in general. It is sickening. Akin to the Taliban destroying the ancient Buddha of Bamiyan.
